Why The Oystercatcher Terrace is Perfect for Summer

There are many reasons to put us at the top of your list this summer, from the convenient location and seasonal food to the chilled drinks and excellent wedding venue.

1. Convenient Location With Breathtaking Views

Greenwich is that rare combination of giving a sense of escape without actually leaving the city. A pleasant alternative to congested, sweaty, inner-city spots, The Oystercatcher offers more open space and room to breathe, with the fresh breeze of the river. Our venue has incomparable views of the River Thames and London’s skyscrapers, creating a fantastic and unforgettable backdrop for get-togethers.

Additionally, Greenwich is well-connected to numerous public transport options, including riverboat, National Rail, DLR, bus, and the tube, including the fully air-conditioned Elizabeth Line — an absolute godsend at the height of summer.

Therefore, it’s incredibly easy to get to no matter where you are travelling from. This makes The Oystercatcher a convenient meeting point, whether you are coming from Central London or further out, with Greenwich train station only a 10-minute walk away.

2. Delicious and Seasonal Food

Looking for somewhere to enjoy summer dining in London? We have you covered! Our summer menu revolves around fresh and seasonal ingredients. Seafood is a huge feature on our menu, including cold, freshly-shucked oysters brought straight to your table on the riverside terrace. Other seafood highlights include salt and pepper squid, Scottish mussels marinière, and a soft-shell crab burger.

Top Tip: Can’t get enough oysters? On Thursdays, we have a great deal, offering fresh oysters for just £1 each! Check out our article to explore more reasons to enjoy seafood in Greenwich.

We know how refreshing a salad can be during the summer heat, so we have a range of tempting options, such as yellow-fin tuna Niçoise, grilled chicken Caesar, and a nutritious raw vegetable salad with broccoli and cauliflower.

There is also our infamous Oystercatcher burger with smoked applewood cheese, tomato, pickles, lettuce, burger sauce, and fries. More of a steak person? Treat yourself to our 280g dry-aged sirloin steak, available with fries and either peppercorn or chimichurri sauce.

Why not stay for dessert and indulge in our sumptuous ice creams and sorbets to cool you down, savour a lemon posset with frozen raspberries and lime, or enjoy a gooey half-baked cookie complete with salted caramel ice cream?

No matter what you fancy, we have something for you. Check out our list of menus to see our entire offerings, including our popular bottomless brunch available on Saturdays between 11 AM and 4 PM.

3. Cool, Crisp, and Refreshing Drinks

When the sun is beating down on London, there is no better way to quench your thirst than by enjoying a cool, refreshing beverage or two. At The Oystercatcher, we have a drink for every taste and fancy, whether you prefer something bold, light, floral, or you just enjoy a crisp pint.

Fancy a cocktail? We offer many delicious options, including Negronis, Piña Coladas, Espresso Martinis, Bloody Marys, Spicy Margaritas, and more! We also offer a generous selection of tempting white, red, and rosé wines, depending on your mood.

Other menu highlights include prosecco, champagne, and spritzes, all ideal for the summer sun. For the non-drinkers, we have lots of alcohol-free options, such as mocktails, fizzy drinks, and fruit juices.

Top Tip: Unsure what to order? Our friendly team is always on hand to recommend the perfect drink tailored to your tastes.

4. Pair With a Visit to the Cutty Sark

A unique highlight of The Oystercatcher is its proximity to one of the city’s most iconic landmarks: the Cutty Sark. Approximately a seven-minute walk away, this historic ship is an award-winning tourist attraction. The fastest sailing ship of its time, it represents the height of clipper ship design.

There are many things to do onboard the Cutty Sark, including walking the main deck, climbing the rigging, and enjoying films, photographs, interactive ship plans, and hands-on exhibits that illustrate the ship’s history.

Why not pair a visit to this maritime treasure with a trip to The Oystercatcher? Once you’ve finished exploring, wander down to our venue, enjoy a cool drink and a bite to eat, and take in the views of boats sailing down the River Thames — a fitting way to reflect on London’s seafaring past.

We have numerous package options and offer exclusive hiring of the full venue, accommodating up to 90 seated or 150 standing guests, giving ample space for eating, drinking, dancing, and any live entertainment you may like.
